Breakfast of Champions - 17th September

Morning Champ.

Breakfast is served

What are you willing to lose to gain what you say you want? (even more Cont’d)

Let us continue with this thought as I sense God really wanting to underline it in our lives. What are you willing to lose to gain what you are saying you really want?

Mark 9: 35(NIV)

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."

This wisdom of Jesus does not make too much sense if you try to understand it according to the taught wisdom of an un-saved, ungodly, world but it makes perfect sense in the Kingdom of God. Remember we are now citizens of God’s Kingdom. If we want to function correctly and prosper in God’s Kingdom as we are promised we can, we need to dare to live by Kingdom wisdom not just earthly sense. The Kingdom of God says to receive, you must give. To become great you become least, to increase who you are you must decrease who you are.  This principle introduces us to the very workings and mechanics of what faith is.

There are many examples of people who said they wanted something only to find they needed to apparently lose something important to them to gain it.

Naaman the Syrian general in 2 Kings 5 – He said he really wanted a miracle to be healed of leprosy and God complied with this by giving Naaman an easy set of instructions to follow to receive fresh, new skin.  Naaman had to lose his pride to gain what he had said he wanted. He nearly did not pay the price but eventually did and received what he so desired.

The rich young ruler in Matthew 19 - Said he wanted to be a follower of Jesus and to be perfect. Jesus never discouraged Him but simply told Him what he would have to lose to gain what he claimed he wanted. The loss would involve what he had always attached his security to and in this case it was his wealth. He felt this was too high a price to gain what he thought he so earnestly desired. Obviously he did not want what he was asking for as badly as he thought he did. Maybe he should have thought about the cost before asking?

The widows in 1 Kings:17 and 2 Kings: 4 – Both had to lose what looked like all they had left  in order to gain everything they could ever need. Both women stepped out on the promises of God the prophets had given and saw their miracles happen. Read the accounts of these miracles which were not obtained cheaply.

The Bible is full of people willing to give up whatever necessary to gain what their heart desired. Sometimes before telling God what we want we should take a moment to see if we are ready to lose something to gain it? Give that some thought and then get out of the boat!

Bless You

Andy
