What are Subscribed To?
John 1:16-18 (NIV)
From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
The law (how to become right in God’s sight by what you do) was given or “delivered” by Moses, but grace (becoming right with God by what another has done on your behalf) and truth came through Jesus. Law and grace represent two very different covenants. The law (The Old Covenant) was destined to be replaced by a new one which is active and relevant for those who believe today. Here is the problem-- you cannot have a subscription to both. You must choose which one you want delivered to the letter box of your life each day. What will it be, the law or grace? Despite what some people teach, they cannot be mixed. Just as oil and water cannot be mixed, you have to choose one.
Who do you want to see walking up the garden pathway each morning? Do you want Moses to arrive carrying two stones that bring you into a daily lifestyle of legalism and hypocrisy or would you prefer to have Jesus holding out two open hands revealing the marks of His crucifixion, which led to the finished work that released you from the law and positioned you into grace? You choose. I know who I am subscribed to.
Notice one was given by someone and the other came through someone. Jesus is grace and truth and when you receive Him you receive them! Remember grace is not sloppy. It is life-changing and when understood correctly it truly is God unmerited, undeserved and unearned favour and forgiveness. It truly does everything that we in our own strength and ability cannot accomplish.
I pray you welcome the life-changing footsteps of grace again today and not the ‘impossible to live up to’ marching of the law that has after all been fulfilled.
