Good morning champion
=OUR COMPASS BEARINGS – LOVE GOD AND LOVE PEOPLE=
Matthew 22:36-40 (NKJV)
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
37 Jesus said to him, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind 38 This is the first and great
commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
Here's a reminder of the true compass bearings of our lives this year, if we
live by them we won't get lost and will never go far wrong. All of us have
priorities that we live by, they help direct us and make sure our time is
spent effectively. But all of us should have these two right at the top of
the list. The one's that come next may change or differ but these first two
should be set in stone:,
1. Love God with everything you are, live to give Him the best of you, live
to grow your relationship with Him because in this is found true wealth.
2. Love People – not just the lovable, but all people, love people as you
love yourself, choose to live beyond yourself again today for someone else.
Couple of thoughts to chew on:
* The opening question was asked of Jesus in regard to the law, even though
the law has now been fulfilled in Christ, these compass bearings remain
good. It is actually by understanding the power of grace rather than the
obligation of law that we are empowered to do them with true effect.
* Notice from these verses that God does not want "with some" He wants "with
all". He wants all that we are and not a little bit. What right does He
have to expect this? Well He set the bench mark by giving us everything He
was in Jesus.
* Loving your neighbor today, maybe it's a good opportunity or moment to
re-think who is your neighbor? Who does that statement include? Who should
it include? Who do you need to show love to today?
* According to these verses you can never love your neighbor effectively
till you can love you. Make sure today you have healthy love for yourself,
see yourself as God does. Often people find it easy to love others but not
themselves. God does not want "either or" He wants both.
The final statement says "everything hangs on these to priorities" this is
true you see because - God is love, love is how He chooses to introduce and
describe Himself. Everything rises or falls according to love.
Let us remind ourselves again what love (God) looks and feels like.
1 Corinthians 13: 4 – 8 (NIV)
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is
not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
