"Pride ain't no friend of mine"
James 4:5-6 (NKJV)
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."
The Message:
It's common knowledge that "God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble."
It is good for us to remember that pride is no friend to our life. It will cause you to know the resistance of God's hand rather than the lifting grace of it.
I don't know about you, but I do not want to live my life with God resisting me – but I certainly want to experience His grace daily assisting me. The key is very simple: keep pride out of your heart and let humility (not false humility) reign in the corridors of your being.
Pride and arrogance are the forerunners to stuff we really do not want.
Proverbs 16:18-19 (NKJV)
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
There is nothing wrong in taking a healthy pride in what you do, but that is so different to the unhealthy pride that tries to stand arrogantly in the face of God and His wisdom and knowledge. Remember, it was pride that deceived satan concerning who he really was, and was the doorway to him getting kicked out of heaven.
He had a pretty good job – he was head worship leader, given the priviledge of reflecting the worship of heaven towards God. One day he decided he did not want to pass it on but own it. At that very moment destruction came to collect Him!
May we all today again purpose to walk humbly before our God, not being scared to celebrate who He has made us to be but ever conscious of what we would be without Him!
Bless ya,
Andy
