Dress for where you're going
Ephesians 6:10-12 (NIV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
These verses speak about wearing the right garments or thing for the moment you're going into. They remind us that, if you're going into battle, make sure you wear the suit of armour you need for that battle. I want to challenge you over the next couple of days concerning what you're wearing in life, and ask you whether or not it's what you should be wearing for where you say you want to go next?
We all wear stuff naturally (which is good, because otherwise we would be nudists, getting arrested!) but the truth is we also all have the potential to wear other stuff too. Just as we choose what we are going to wear in a natural sense, we also have a choice what other non-clothing related stuff we wear. For example, stuff like guilt, depression, sarcasm and unforgiveness, to name just but a few. The truth is none of these things suit you anymore now that your life is in Christ! So it's time for you to look in the mirror and ask yourself, "Does what I am wearing in life suit the season I am in?" Also, "Is it what I need to wear for where I am saying my life is going next?"
These are good questions that could really help you to redress your life for the success that God has for you next. Obviously we have to be honest with ourselves: if you find you're still wearing some of the stuff you used to wear, that used to really suit the person you were but not the one you are now, then let the Holy Spirit help you redress your life so that you wearing what you need and what suits you for your today.
You would not go into a battle with swimming shorts and flip flops, even if you had just came from the beach! You would change what you had on to fit where you were going next. This is what we always need to be doing with our walk with God.
So tomorrow we will begin to look at your wardrobe – see you there!
